How long would it take for the USA to respond, how many could they stop, and how many cities would be destroyed? How long would it take for the fallout to be picked up in the jet stream and the radiation carried all over Earth causing cancer ,if not, killing everyone? It's as intelligent as a teacher threatening a student with a grenade in a small classroom filled with other kids, completely insane. Am I right?

I think it would be wise if every country, including the USA stands down, dismantles their bombs, and we find a rational way to handle our differences.

about 40 years ago this was simulated. nuke war between SU and the US. it's assured mutual destruction you see. ~90% of either country population die upon the strike. plus ~8% of initial population die from radiation within next 5 years. remains go to stone age. no missiles will be stopped from either side. back strike is automated on either side and takes 10-15 minutes from initial launch. no cities will remain, only towns. city territories mostly become inhabitable for at least 50 years from the strike.

fallout spread over the globe within about a week. it would be glowing clouds in some cases. at least 5% of total population of other countries die from radiation.

now, some history. soviet warfare doctrine, and now russian, is defensive. that means, that russia uses strategic military force (like the nukes) only for defense. for that matter, neither SU, nor russia ever sought to start a nuke war. khruschev's "we;ll bury you" is taken from the context actually. it was a dialogue. someone of the US delegation on UN assembly (either president or state secretary, i do not remember for sure) stated "we have nukes to destroy SU twice". khruschev answered "that's great, yet we still need to destroy you only once". SU was the only country which totally defied the US. otherwise the US could do clearly anything unchecked. this sure is no concern for most americans - it's a concern for the rest of the world. remember viet nam campaign?

in 1990s the US could do whatever they wanted unchecked, because in russia they've funded the team in power. now these people are gone and the government in moscow care about the country, not about white house needs. that means billions in loss for certain corporations funding certain political parties in the US. that's where the propaganda comes from.

peace people. don't fall for it. no war is good.

That would never happen,It's called peaceful coexistance because the effects of a nuclear war would be devastating not to mention bombs are 1000 times more potent then 40 years ago.

We Americans would be screwed then. With Bush around, response might take a while (and it would be a violent, war-filled one), and a lot of cities would be annihilated. From what we've seen in Hiroshima, death would take seconds, as well as cancer, which would spread through generations; as in Japan, there would be some survivors. It is pretty a dimwitted action, yes.

You will never see the day when Nuclear weapons are disarmed. Russia is the least of the fears. China has an Army of over eight hundred Million soldiers. That does not include Air or Sea power. Russia earlier this year pointed their warheads at Europe. Vladimir Putin is to feared people. He is Adolph Hitler in his second lifetime. This man hates the United States and went into Iran and made peace. Then he financially backed them up to build a nucler Power Plant. Next he went into Israel and Pakistan and made peace. Rice from the US took advantage of this and lay claim that it was her doing between the two bitter Nations. She is a waste of good air. Put General Collin Powell in the White House and I will at this time feel safe.................

I, too, would wonder about things like this, but to be honest, I don't think the President would have much time to alert the U.S. about the nuclear war heads since it could take several hours for us to abandon our homes while the bomb hit our homes.

No, the us would not stop it, they would probably respond within 10-15 minutes, then the missles would hit and vaporize everything, then the SSBN submarines would sufrface and blow everything up again just to make sure they were all dead!
