The truth is the FA can sack McClaren, and they probably will, but it won't change a thing. England are at best mediocre, though they aren't as bad as they were in the mid 90s when they failed to qualify or the USA world cup.
And it isn't just England. Even the last world cup final was contested in the end by two of the worst teams in the tournament. It is a fine line between success and failure these days.
And don't forget Europe is not the easiest continent to play in. It is the toughest area to qualify for a world cup, and equally hard to qualify for the Euro finals. I don't envy McClaren's successor, since whoever it is will have all the same problems.

My opinion? My reaction:
WHAT A SHAME! In front of the prince William they lose against Croatia. (Though the prince has nearly nothing to do with it :)) England, come back when you'll be really prepared to face the big teams!
It's true that Carson should not play. That was a big mistake but Crouch's position was alright. It is true that there was not much other strikers to choose from. The 4-4-1 was alright. Bad luck, that's all

I knew england would of lost that game, they didn't have their forwards and Robinson has not been playing good so they put on a crappy goalie which was the only coaches choice. The england team has bad chemistry now, I think Beckham should come back also england needs a better coach a coach that is as good as Germany's coach.Germany easily qualified for the Euro with some players missing form injury like Ballack who is the most important man for Germany...
GERMANY WILL WIN THE EURO!!

You'd better believe it. Out coz they're not good enough, plain and simple, just like McLaren's tactics. It'll spell the end of a few players international careers, Beckham, Carson [before it's even started], Gerrard, Barry, Campbell, Robinson....Bleak times ahead for sure. Scotland had to endure 2 tortuous years under Herr Vogts, but looking at the bigger picture he had a vision for the future which is beginning to pay off. Maybe that time is about to happen with English football, you need to scour the lower reaches to unearth new talent coz the latest lot just ain't doing it.

Steve Mclaren should never have got the Job. The English FA have got what they deserved. As for tonites game, yes the formation of 4-5-1 was poor. England play 4-4-2 and should never have been changed. I agree James shouldve been goalie. Crouchy was the only player who played well, and yes he should have had a partner. Mclaren will be sacked tomorrow and deservedly so. Bring on JOSE!!!!!

with rooney and owen out on injury, there weren't much choices for mcclaren. crouch wasn't the best, but he did at least tie the game for england. he was also doing a lot of setting up for phillips and joe cole. if the defense was able to hold croatia, we wouldn't be here complaining how bad they were.
i think this is a good wake up call for the english national team. they need to breed new young talents in EPL instead of buying foreigners all the time.
but i believe everything begins with the coach of the team. none of the top 4 teams in EPL has an english coach. they wouldn't second thought about bringing in talents from overseas. it's always easier to buy proven talents instead of training up young kids. with the millions they can spend each year, none of them would spend time in developing home grown talents.
the future of english talents will have to rely on mid to small size EPL teams. they don't have millions to spend. so they must rely on training up talents. at least these young talents will have a chance to play for these teams.

lol david james, put robinson in, mcclaren is just afraid of the past and the mistake robinson made 13 months ago, another tactical collapse in the game.
croatia just has england's number, thats it.

There are two opinions.
If you're English, it's disappointing, but life goes on.
If you're Scottish, it's like winning every World Cup in every sport, every gold medal at the Olympics, all on Christmas Day.
God love 'em.
