This is a little off-topic, but a while ago I lost a gold cigarette lighter that my husband gave me. I looked everywhere in the house for it, and couldn't find it, so I gave up. One day I went to get a can of frozen orange juice out of the freezer, and I heard something rattling around in one of those curved bins that hold juice cans. Lo and behold, there was my lighter, which had apparently fallen off the top of the fridge, and into the freezer. Now, whenever anything is lost, my husband and I have this private joke: "Look in the freezer!"
It wasn't exactly a metal detector that found my lost treasure, but I must say it was a "cool thing", and the missing, frozen lighter still worked perfectly after being rescued from its icy habitat.

An old tin toy solider. And the location of the septic tank in my backyard. Also, a few random scraps of jewelry and bottle caps at the beach.
