I think it's a little dry, but manageable. Maybe I should try some open mike-night thing. From this VERY short routine, what do you think? Potential? Pack it in? I'm not talking America's Next Great Comic or anything, but a hobby. Do people do stand-up as a hobby, or are they all extremely passionate about making it big? I don't know what the hell I'm talking about... encourage me or discourage me, but have fun with it.

Thank you all for your honest answers. I realize some of you may think of it as a rant (Amy R), but I seriously just thought it was funny. My family and friends all think I'm funny, but, then again, isn't that the reason they're my family and friends? Again, I appreciate the honesty everyone. If it's not funny, let me know. Either way, have a great night. :)

Warning, don't read if you tend to bash opinions that are not your own.
first of all... I think politics can be funny.. I mean, come on, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? hilarious. and the religion card? always funny.
Some people just have different opinions on what is comedy and what is not. people who think religion and politics are not funny at all? they are far too conservative (doesn't mean they are republicans or democrats either, they just think those subjects are untouchable... fine, whatever, go laugh at stupid animal jokes or America's funniest home videos... bleech).
Now... your little stand-up joke... it was... meh. Sort of an opener, I mean, I laughed a little... but on the inside. So yeah... work on it, and then go perform... it is way more rewarding to get visual and audible feedback from a live audience.
I do agree with you though... how lame is it that because you don't wear an American Flag pin, you are somehow... no longer American. lame.
Well, I am going to go back to watching Arrested Development. Good luck with your stand-up endeavor.

Too bad you didn't give us a sample of your humor. I think as a hobby or avocation, the stand-up routine would be fun for you. Some comedians make it big -- think Bob Hope. Others do it just for fun. The decision is really up to you. Give it a try and see how you like it.

Did I ever tell you the one about -- ooops! Sorry! That's supposed to be your routine, not mine..... Good luck!

Hey ... if you think it would work for you .. Go For It. I say try anything once. You will never know if you could have made it unless you try. And, who says you have to make it big ... even just as a hobby would be wonderful. I think the world needs more laughter. Just don't use a lot of crude jokes and profanity ... there is too much of that as I see it. Good luck to you!

That "routine" was just a politcal rant. And the link did not allow me to return to this location. It was not funny at all.If you want funny, stick to things people can recognize as funny. If you want to be the next Lewis Black, you need to rant about common things first - leave politics to known comedians because politics and religion are not actually funny. "Have fun with it'? You wish. Don't bother spamming us with this junk - if your own friends are not rolling on the floor laughing, it is not comedy!

First of all, are you funny?

Can you stand up in front of a group and tell a story and not pass out in fear?

And you can do it as a hobby if you want to. The comedy club will be happy to pay you nothing for your hour of time.

cheers.

i think you should go for it, otherwise you might regret it for the rest of your life. But dont do just one show because each audience is different and one night everyone will laugh at your jokes and another nite the audience might not. But that does not mean your material or you are not funny it just means the audience has a different type of sense of humor than you do.

That's pretty funny, dude!

Go for it!

Seriously, there's this guy i know that's s'posed to be a musician, but i think he thinks they're looking for HIM. We keep tellin' him to do open mic, but he won't, so it's like wtf... how are ppl s'posed to hear him and discover him, if he's not OUT THERE?

Get out. If it doesn't work, you'll know it. If it works, nothing but good things can come from it, even if yur not trying....

Break a leg!
