Most people get paid time and a half for working on Christmas or Thanksgiving. I questioned my employer about this and they told me the extra pay was figured into my salary even though I am paid by the hour. This just doesn't sound right to me. It is a county government in North Carolina. Not sure what laws apply or how I can figure out what they mean by this.

The first guy's right: get another job. But you need to find out the laws regarding this. The only law with which I am familiar is that your employer has to pay you over time if you work more than 40 hours in any one week.

Memorial day is a national holiday, but not all companies give a day off with pay. I worked in the food industry for years, worked that day, and never once got overtime or special compensation. This was for a national chain, so if it had been law, the company would have been in serious trouble.

Call on the work force regulatory agencies and ask what the law is in your state.
