Bettman's tenure as NHL commissioner has come under criticism by fans and the media. He oversaw work stoppages in 1994, and 2004. Four franchises (the Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators, and Buffalo Sabres) declared bankruptcy during his commissionership.
Bettman was also largely held responsible for aggressively pushing the game into non-traditional markets at the expense of traditional ones, supposedly for major American television contracts and expansion fees. Though the expansion plans were set in motion before he became commissioner, most of it was implemented when he took office. This resulted in the league slowly losing its significance in the sports world.

Canadians don't like him, the union don't like him, but as a Canadian I like him. He crushed the union remember players saying no cap, no revenue sharing, then caved. True the game hasn't grown in ratings in the states but it is a regional game there. In Tampa I can tell you from experience it is sometimes difficult to get tickets. As far as expansion is concerned it is my hope he moves or expands to Europe and make this a true global league. You could get 8 teams in Europe in hockey markets. The world should be his focus not just the US.

Wayne Gretzky. He sure can't coach, but being the best ever to play the game, he would represent the NHL well.
Bettmen does need to go. Hockey is the greatest sport there is and it should be getting more promotion & attention than it is.

Who ever it is, it should definatly be someone with a hockey background this time. Bob Nicholson is a GREAT idea, John Davidson, or even or Collin Campbell.
Either way kick the bum out!!!

It would help if you didn't plagiarize the 'contents' of your question from an ESPN article, last I looked that was illegal..
1. The Los Angeles Kings never declared bankruptcy - Bruce McNall did, the team just happened to be his collateral
