Don`t criticize please. I mean hunters as in on the show Supernatural. Not seeking and studying, but actually hunting (AKA slaying) the evil things. PLEASE only answer if you or someone you know is or has been a hunter or if you have some other experience with hunters/slayers of the supernatural.
If you know anything about it, please answer. If anyone can teach me over email, I would really love that. I want to be a hunter but I need to learn more first so that I don`t get myself killed.

Thank you!

You know. even though must of the creatures in there are legends and folklore, it is filled with inaccuracies. Specially in the Demonic Possession scenes and in some of the ways to kill the beings. But I can honestly say that there are no real hunters in the real world. Demons, Devils, Ghosts, witches, Angels etc. All possible. Guys going around killing Demons with a Colt. not really. The closest thing you can get is a paranormal investigator or a demonologists (Not a ghost hunter, those are just weirdos with a camera). Real people who fight fight real apparitions. In the real world the Winchesters wouldn't be able to exorcise. Neither Dean Nor Sam would be able to be in the same room during an exorcism without feeling nauseous (Dean's soul belongs to hell and Sam's is tainted because of Dean's deal). Is a great show and I'm a fan, but keep in mind that Is fiction.

Most 'paranormal hunting' done on tv and in the movies (Constantine comes to mind) has a hard time translating a ephemeral world so they simply 'plop' that world onto this one. In other words, most monsters exist in incorporeal form; think of Linda Blair in the Exorcist. Being incorporeal, physical implements (like guns, knives, stakes and whatnot) would most definitely work on the host (permanently) but that would be akin to burning down a house to evict some illegals or homeless people squatting there.

The best kind of hunting the public never really sees, mostly because there is nothing to 'see', at least in terms of physical and legal applicability. Most vampires, the real ones anyway, are also incorporeal and thus do their 'blood drinking' via spiritual energy: so no puncture marks would be present but the lethargy would still remain.

The further problem with this is that alot of people 'explain' away their answer exotically (because it makes them look cooler or more hip) when the answer is much more mundane. Alot more people feel lethargic because of psycholocial imbalances and physiological abnomalities than because of vampire feedings, so its much easier to start with the basics before trying to diagnose someone as being 'possessed'.

And in actuality, the church has a lock on 'demon hunting' and for a good reason: they monopolised the business for the last 2,000 years, and even they discard more cases than they approve.

In any case, what makes a good 'monster hunter' isn't someone with a personal armoury in their trunk: its the person with a well-developed and well-read and researched mind. The best weapon ever is the one sitting behind your eyes. When you can talk a 'demon' into exorcising itself, or leaving on its own, what do you need a Colt .45 for?

hi sweetie,

People are always going to say things aren't real if they don't believe in them, and with out "proof" for nearly fifty five years, give or take a decade, i have personally seen and dealt with "creatures" that others would not even begin to understand. I have personally preformed an exorcism and taken part in group banishment of entities that still make me cringe.

As far as how to deal with these things, guns are not the answer. Well maybe if it fires a silver bullet when your dealing with werewolves,(which I have always wanted to see) not all of these beings are actually physical, more often then not they are entities.(invisible, or spirit like.)

there is a great deal about this topic that I chose not to discuss here, but I would gladly discuss with you anything that you may be interested in.

If your interested, then maybe it is your calling, true most people are born into this way of life, some are just "late bloomers"

please feel free to ask Granny.

That show is FICTIONAL. McG, the producer, pays good money for an entire team of writers to sit around and make stuff up. Yeah, they base it all on the same stories people have been telling since the middle ages, but those stories were made up before people had as much scientific knowledge as we do now. They didn't know there was a medical condition that could cause a person to grow copious amounts of hair all over the body (werewolves), or that rigor mortis is not permanent (corpses turning into vampires), or that sexual abuse in the very early years of life could lead to multiple personality disorder (possession).

I'm not trying to be mean, I promise. I just think you need some perspective.

And I also promise that if you drive around the country with a small arsenal in your trunk and start shooting people because you think they're demons, you will be arrested for murder (that is if you don't get killed in the process). You can say "I'm a demon hunter" all you want, but that's not going to help you nearly as much as you'd think. Heaven help you if you get caught in Texas, because we just inject you and move on to the next death row inmate in line.

First, this isn't for beginners, and it's not for people that want to pretend they know what their doing (like some of the people on thoses shows). If you have to ask about being taught, then it's not for you. People who do this are naturaly born with the knowledge for this, and other things. Find something better for yourself.
