I have high milege vehicle and am replacing drums because of noise when I brake after I instaled new shoes on the car. I understand that I must adjust brakes before putting on new drums. Please help. Thanks, Mike

you turn the star wheel with a brake spoon until you feel a very light drag against the drum.
For a first timer lubricate the star wheel good before installing. If you self adjusters are working correctly you can simply back your car up a few times and slam on your brakes and they will adjust themselfs. Hope This Helps

You're ahead of the job. First sand or file or scrape on the side walk the front and rear of the lining material. If the edges wear sharp, that's what makes them squeak. You probably don't need new drums, unless they're scored. Just get them turned at a shop. When you put them back just move them side to side and adjust the ratchet or star wheel out till there's just a tiny bit of clearance, but you can turn the drum easily.

They may self-adjust. After you get them put back together, try hitting the brakes while backing up or pulling the emergency/parking brake while backing up.
