Alright, so every president in United States history has been either a Democrat or Republican (and a few Whigs and Federalists) . My question is really if these two factions (which is what they really are) embody the will of the people. Have you ever agreed 100% with either of these "parties"?

No i have never fully agreed with one side. George Washignton stated in his farewell address to be warry of political parties and of foreign entanglements. I think we should really listen to him. The parties are no longer working for the people but for the parties...My advice to everyone is to register as a independent. By registering as an independent political parties are not guaranteed your vote and might actually start focusing on the people and less on their interests.

I don't believe that the president has to be from either one of the major political parties. It's just been that way all these years. I think if a good candidate ran as an Independent, he/she could win.
I would like to see that happen, as I haven't been fond of any recent president and I don't care for the people running on either side right now. No, I've never agreed 100% with either the GOP or the Democrats.
Also, we would need an Independent who had the proper temperment and mentality for the job. In other words, NOT Ross Perot!!

first of all how many people do you agree 100% with. Now how many of those people are the rest of us going to agree 100% with. There are only so many sides to an issue. Generally democrats lean one way and republicans the other but there is always some minor fence sitting on a few issues. However, if you agree with 90% of a political party that is probably what you are.

Not at all. Given the choice I think most Americans would choose to have 3 or 4 parties that are viable to elect a President. Right now, we are stuck with two. Not many people like everything about one party. We are just stuck with a broken government that works this way.

i don't know.

and i don't think it should.

the problem with political parties is that people will just vote for whoever is running for office from the party that they favor.

For example, somone may not know anything about politics whatsoever and simply vote for whoever the republican canidate is simply because they liked george bush sr.

Its stupid. Political parties are created for lazy people who don't want to do their research on the canidates and their policies. They are also created to limit the change in policies within the government, for the two major parties (democratic and republican) like to keep a pretty consistant government that resists change greatly.

and no, i have never fully agreed with either party. For me, the democrats take the liberties of the people too far, for i believe that killing of anothers life before they get to chance to live is not someone else's decision. But the Republicans take things too conservatively for my taste.

The President doesn't have to be a democrat or a republican, but good luck getting the majority of people to vote for someone who was nominated by neither of those parties.

Yes, I actually agree with most of the Republican platform, however I do agree that a 2 party system will fail eventually. We should have more outside influence to counter the corruption that is always increasing in BOTH our current parties.

It makes no difference both are liars and some of the liars will spend more of your money than you would like. All the same no one really cares and if you do care and want to spend a pile of money the will listen until they get elected and if you keep paying they will do your biding. Pay to play politics. If you are a real person with real problems and have no money only god can help you. Better for you to believe in religion.

i completely agree with you. i was just thinking the same exact thing. im sick of having to choose a party instead of a person. i want a non party candidate who has his/her own ideas and doesnt dangle like a puppet on a string. i want real answers and action. why is it with all the different ideas out there we cant have a few more parties on the ballot.

It doesn't HAVE to be either/or, but it's just kind of considered throwing your vote away if you vote for an independent because they usually don't have a chance in winning. No, I am a Democrat, but I don't believe in 100% of what they believe. In my opinion, any one who does, whether it's D or R, follow blindly.
