Basically, I have to write a paper on WHY I think it's more socially accpetable for a man to engage in casual sex than a woman, even though it's the same act for either gender and the risk of STDs and everything else is as high for either. Frankly, I don't know WHY it's supposed to be okay for a man and not a woman.... I've actually wondered that for a while...
I need some direction for the paper here. What do you all think?
Why is it more socially accepted for a man to sleep around but socially frowned upon when it's a woman? Where's the difference coming from here?

It's a cultural thing. It comes from society being historical patriarchical. Women, at one time, were considered to little more than possessions. They were treated a little better than pets. As such, a woman who was "used" a lot was less valuable than one who was untouched until after marriage, when the man basically owned her.

So, if a woman was already "used", then any number of men could have sex with her and it wouldn't be any smudge on the man's character. However, that woman would be considered fairly worthless.

Unfortunately, that mentality, which is heavily promoted by religions, is still pushed these days in various guises.

I think that somewhere in history it was considered "manly" to bed many women.Perhaps it was a measure of social status.
At one time the male provided the food, shelter and protection so he was basically "in charge". There also was a time when a man could tell a woman whatever he felt and it was accepted. And of course let's not forget the time honored tradition of concubines. Now for the woman : Their role once was simply to cook clean and make babies. And there was a time when only women were prostitutes.so when a woman sleeps around it is reasonably easy to see how and why they are frowned upon.Ironically I know of some "man bitches" who would tap anything with a heartbeat that had a thing about slutty women. My thought was: "Dude it's these same slutty women that made you what you are." Society has set a double standard. It's not right by any means.
Did you know that there is not a woman on this planet under the age of 65 that cannot get sex. It doesn't matter how fat or unattractive the woman is? The simple truth is that we men are in fact pigs, we (thats a generalized "we") will sleep with any woman who is willing. In another twist of irony there are many many guys out there who couldn't get sex if their life depended on it. Why? pretty obvious one would think. women are undoubtedly more discerning, and very selective in choosing a sexual partner. Ahh the mysteries of life, and so the big wheel spins on...
hope this helped. By the way I have been faithful to my lady for 16 years now.

I think the difference lies in gender stereotypes. Women are supposed to be pure, feminine, and save themself for their husband. For men, sex is referred to as 'scoring', or thought of as a victory in some way. Almost as if sex is a game for men, but a game that women are not supposed to play. I think it's BS personally, if a man can have casual sex, a woman can as well. Good luck with your paper!

Honestly I don't think that it's acceptable for men or women to sleep around. I think that sex before marriage for either a man or woman is wrong.

Historically, in most societies, women's vulnerability (due to their smaller size, pregnancy and child rearing) placed them under the protection/power/domination of men. So men made the rules; women and children were looked upon as property. Men wanted to make sure that the children inheriting their possessions were THEIR children, biologically. Hence all kinds of rules around, usually inhibiting, girls' and women's sexuality, from female circumcision to the expectation of virginity at marriage to punishing girls for masturbating. And of course the expectation that women be faithful to one man. It's all about controlling the master's property and cuts across cultures worldwide.

Its only different because society has said so. Men and women both do it, but we make it sound like the girls is a loose woman, when the guys consider a stud! Can you say..Double Standard?
