Under ideal conditions--ignoring hot days, cold air, and defects in manufacture....

full-length bedroom mirror: plane, to accurately reflect the image.
make up mirror: concave, to act as a magnifier.
car rear-view mirror: plane, for accurate viewing
dental mirror: plane, for accurate viewing.
store security mirror: convex, for wide-angle view
jeweller's mirror: concave, to act as a magnifier.
car side-view mirror: convex, for wide-angle view
mirror in flashlight: concave, to focus the light; it's usually a parabolic reflector.
shaving mirror: concave, to act as a magnifier.
surface of lake: very slightly convex! The surface of the water is equidistant from the center of the earth, making it curve--see the surface of the ocean and the horizon for an example. But the curve is so slight, most people would regard it as a plane surface.

The rule to go by is a convex mirror for a smaller image and wider field of view, and a concave mirror for a larger image and smaller field of view.

"full-length" means you see the full length of yourself, so it may be planar or a bit convex. In some dressing rooms, the mirrors may be non-planar to make the person look a bit thinner, but also to allow the mirror to be mounted higher off the ground where it is not so likely to get bumped by vacuum cleaners or shoes while dressing.

makeup, shaving mirror - This is often a 2-sided mirror with planar on one side and concave for magnification on the other.

rear view mirror - often planar, sometimes convex for wider angle. This mirror often is prismatic so that it has a day/night setting that angles it up or down.

dental mirror, jeweler's mirror - magnification definitely so concave

store security mirror - Think ball mirror like in discos.

car side view mirror - Sometimes planar, sometimes convex. Right side view mirror on US cars is usually convex. Trucker's "West Coast" mirrors are often planar, but they have a convex blind-spot mirror mounted below it.

flashlight reflector - concave to spread beam

surface of lake - generally convex when viewed from above due to the spherical nature of the earth. It can be uneven due to the moon's gravitational mass pulling on it.

convex...they certainly help catch shoplifters at the 7-11...they are hung high in the back of the store opposite the door and register so cashier can see all that goes on in the store...they widen everything...even that which is already too wide..
