I was a senior in high school and had to take the attendance sheets into the main office -- everyone was crying and I asked why and they said that President Kennedy had been shot....I walked back to my classroom crying and when I entered the room I said to the class that Kennedy had been shot...a few seconds later the Principal of the school came over the public address system and said that Kennedy had been shot and killed and that school was dismissed for the day. The campus which had over 3000 students was dismally quiet as we left to go home. Everyone stared at one another in disbelief. The entire weekend we watch on TV and actually saw Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald right before our eyes. They replayed footage of the shooting of the President and also the shooting of Lee Oswald. It was a wake up call to a young girl.

Mary Jo W -- sure hope people don't make the same comment about you when you die.
Princess -- if you are from the 90's and were in kindergarten you must have been there a long time as Kennedy was killed in 1963.

I was in the fifth grade at choir practice when the principal announced Kennedy had been shot but the news had not yet been confirmed he had died. I don't think the reality hit everyone for several hours because after school a football game went on as usual. (I remember it because it was the only game I ever attended while at that school) That evening however, I guess around dinner time, when all the radio and television stations were carrying the news, it hit home.

There was an announcement and we were told to school would be canceled for the day. We were all very surprised that we got to go home. At home the TV was on and I saw for the first time the bullet pass through the head of the president. I was sad and a tear came to my eye as Walter Cronkite announced the president was shot and an hour or so later he broke down as he passed on that the president had died. It was the most riveting TV until the Viet Nam war coverage. Sad day for getting out of school.

I was a high school senior sitting in class when the principal came on the public address with the announcement. I had my senior portrait taken the next day and I discussed the assassination with the photographer. I remember the funeral on Monday, since we were home from school on the national day of mourning.

I was only 18 months old at the time, so I don't remember a thing about it. However, I have always been fascinated by the assassination. I guess that may be because it was the first major historical event of my lifetime.

I was in my play pen. Probably wondering why mama was crying! I was to young to know what was happening. I do remember growing up with the knowledge that this happened as people mourned JFK for many years and it took a toll on America. I knew what had happened to him before I learned it in school. My parents were deeply affected by his murder/assignation, and so were we kids.

My wife was having a female problem and I had just come home early from work to take her to the hospital when the assassination was being broadcast. This was a day that I can never forget.

I was only 5. I remember sitting in the living room in front of the big black & white in West Stockbridge, MA. My mom was crying. She told me what had happened, but I guess I was too young to understand, but I was sad because she was.
