Its a southern accent you want, and not just any one, a North Carolina one. North Carolina accents are very different from the normal run-of-the-mill southern accent. I got one by living in North Carolina(I live in St. Louis, but my family has another house in North Carolina too). If you have any friends who have previously lived in the south, ask them to help you out with it. Or check with relatives. Of course the best way is to visit the state and if you think just staying in a hotel for a week is going to do it for you, it won't. You have to be with the people from the area 24/7. Try staying with someone in North Carolina if this is the route you want to go. Some people pick up accents faster than others. And if you don't stay in North Carolina for years then you will probably lose the accent when you come back to whereever you live(its just weird like that trust me). And if you live in the North, chances are they will make fun of you for your accent(not being mean, just honest).

You could try that. The best way to get a country accent would be to go among those who speak that way. I know everytime I've moved away from the south I lose my accent. When I come back to the south it doesn't take me long to get my accent back.

Pick the accent you like then copy the way the words are said. That or move to the south.

Get a hillbilly's dictionary you will need one if you do any of the other things people suggest. It would still be helpful. We run your word's together and also cut them short while dragging them out.

Don't try to become someone you're not. There's nothing worse than someone trying to fake an accent. They never get it right, and end up sounding pretty dumb.
