Im taking an astronomy class soon, and I want to know some stuff going into the class.

Are there any good movies/documentaries about the basics of astronomy?

Don't worry. You'll be drawing pictures of the stars you see through a moderate sized newtonian reflector. And you'll draw Saturn's rings and the positions of its moons, if you see any. You might learn about the distance modulus, which relates absolute and apparent magnitudes with the distance to the star. But that's a big "maybe." Astronomy 101 is "stargazing for college credit," and not much more. Learn some of the constellations and the names of a few stars, and you'll be way ahead of the class.

Cosmos, by Carl Sagan. You can get it on Netlix or Blockbuster. It's a 13-part series that aired on PBS circa 1980. It's a bit dated, but most of it should still hold for a 100-level course.
