Republicans believe in a smaller central government and a free market. Democrats are Godless commies who think people should be completely dependent on the government for their every need. Republicans think everyone should have an opportunity, but you should also be held accountable for the choices you make. Democrats think black people are less intelligent than others and need special treatment in order to succeed

On the surface, not really anything anymore.
But there is supposed to be a real difference.
The Republicans are people who favor a smaller central government (less powerful federal gov't basically). Basically the federal gov't leaves the economy alone and lets market forces run things (supply and demand deciding prices and who owns what and how much they own). The federal gov't stays out of pretty much every matter, letting each individual state handle all questions and law enforcement. The federal gov't main job would be to maintain armed forces and be ready to deploy them whenever necessary. Beyond that, they have almost no power. The Republicans wanted this to prevent the federal gov't from becoming another Monarchy power, like the kingship of England was.
The Democrats prefer a much stronger central gov't. They believe that the strong federal gov't is needed to protect the rights of citizens. If states are left in charge, states full of a certain group would vote to take away rights of smaller groups within the state. For an example from the past, when black people were "liberated" (quotes used because they weren't really free yet) after the civil war, the southern states would be able to vote slavery back into legality because they had more whites than blacks voting. The federal gov't was expected to prevent the states from doing things like this.
Also the federal gov't would be expected to prevent any one company from gaining a monopoly and then gouging everyone on price because no one would be able to buy their product anywhere else. Basically the Democrats prefer to have the federal gov't as a protection for the poor or politically outspoken who exercised their rights to free speech; so that they could be protected from the rich and powerful who the Democrats believed would be attempting to solidify power and crush smaller individuals.

great question madhavi:) yOU know though these words sound synonimous but still there lies a "deep" difference !! Happiness can be found of things which may not even be beneficial to our spiritual or psychological aspect like we may go out & have our favourite dish & clothes etc., we would feel happy. But satisfaction comes from a kind of achievent, if we get good grades in studies we would get a positive feeling that says "hard word paid off" now thats more beneficial isn't it ;p[ Now peace.... I think it depends on what attitude we adopt towads the "activities" we do for "happiness" or either "satisfaction", peace actually exist in our self, it just has to be found by us. A person of ignorance might feel peace while a hard worker could be strresed. It can be even oposite to that . So peace needs to found by us.

Democracy describes a small number of related forms of government. Its name comes from the ancient Greek for "rule by the people". The fundamental feature of democracy as currently understood and practised is competitive elections. Competitive elections are usually seen to require freedom of speech (especially in political affairs), freedom of the press, and some degree of rule of law. Civilian control of the military is often seen as necessary to prevent military dictatorship and interference with political affairs.
Majority rule is a major principle of democracy, though many democratic systems do not adhere to this strictly - representative democracy is more common than direct democracy, and minority rights are often protected from what is sometimes called "the tyranny of the majority". Popular sovereignty is common but not universal motivating philosophy for establishing a democracy.
A republic is a state or country that is not led by a hereditary monarch,[1][2] where the people of that state or country (or at least a part of that people)[3] have impact on its government,[4] and that is usually indicated as a republic.[5]
The detailed organization of republics' governments can vary widely. The first section of this article gives an overview of the distinctions that characterise different types of non-fictional republics. The second section of the article gives short profiles of some of the most influential republics, by way of illustration. A more comprehensive list of republics appears in a separate article. The third section is about how republics are approached as state organisations in political science: in political theory and people governed.

There are actually four parties in our government. You have Liberals (aka socialist), then Democrats, then Republicans, then Conservatives. The only difference between Democrats and Republicans are the stands on abortion and taxation as well as social programs. Conservatives are the extreme right, that support fully the ideals of capitalism and the free market. Were as liberals are the extreme left that support ideals such as socialism and communism.

I assume you mean the parties.
Let me start by saying that I am not a Democrat or a Republican, and don't particularly care for either party. Nevertheless, I will try to characterize them fairly.
The Democratic and Republican parties are the two dominant political organizations in the United States. There are a number of smaller parties, notably the Libertarians and the Greens, although their members hold no major offices.
As a general rule, Democrats tend to be more liberal. That means that in areas of social issues, they favor things like the rights for women to choose, gay rights, oppose the death penalty, etc. They tend to economically more interested in progressive income taxes (that is, wealthier people pay a greater percentage of their income than poorer people), they believe in more heavily regulating businesses, and think that government should play a greater role in providing services to its citizens and ensuring their rights.
Republicans tend to be more conservative. In social matters, they generally oppose abortion, they believe in a more prominent place for faith, and favor more traditional systems of social and political organization. They generally oppose government involvement in certain areas--notably in the regulation of commerce and business--and feel that government's role in general should be relatively limited. Republican economic policies favor low taxes and incentives for businesses and the wealthy for the better good of the country and its citizens.
These are quite broad categories, however, and there are many Dems and Reps who are exceptions to them. This is in part due to the fact that these parties themselves are large and to a certain degree amorphous. As my old political science professor used to say, America has a one and a half party system.
Cheers.

Democratic is when the whole people vote on all issues and majority rules. Republican is when people are elected by the whole people to represent them in government.

None, they are opposite wings of the same bird. They no longer represent "We the People" they represent big business, special interest and social - ethnic interest groups.
If you don't have a fat bankroll they will not listen to you. Name me one piece of legislation that's been passed under Dubya's watch that was written by our elected lawmakers? NONE! All the laws Dubya has passed were written by lawyers for the lobbyist from big business, and special interest groups.

democratic means that the people directly elect their representatives. in this case, the states are all democracies. a republic, however, is where the people don't necessary directly elect the president directly, but representatives of the people do the voting. this is the case with the United States. so the states are democracies, but the Country is a republic.
