They pretty much read the same, so whats the difference between the Intel Pentium and Intel Centrino.

Intel Centrino is not a processor but a combination of Intel processor, Intel chipset and Intel wireless card.

The Centrino Duo is the combination of Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processor, an Intel mobile chipset and Intel wireless network card.

The Pentium Dual Core in mobile form is a reduced cache version of the Core Duo, at any given clock speed expect it to be slower than the Core Duo and much slower than the Core 2 Duo (but it'll be cheaper).

The Core 2 Duo and Core Duo and both better processors than the Pentium Dual Core but they are also more expensive (though they're all very good processors, just remember that Pentium is now Intel's budget line with the Core processors being the mainstream line).

All else being equal the Core Duo or Core 2 Duo would be better though a higher clocked Pentium Dual Core could beat them (though it'll need a pretty significant clock speed advantage to beat a Core 2 Duo) but you probably won't find the cheap processors clocked high enough for that.

Going for a slower processor might be a good idea in that it'd allow you to get better a better laptop in other areas.

The person above is wrong!

Pentium D (Dual core) is an older generation of Intel processors. Its not that old, it performs very well!
Centrino Duo is basically Intel's Core 2 Duo (laptop). It's slightly better than Pentium D (Dual core), but the performance different is unnoticeable.

Centrino Duo is better, but if budget is the problem, stick with Pentium D.

Intel Pentium Dual Core is the latest and greatest. Intel Centrino Dual is the latest and greatest budget processor. I would go with the Intel Pentium Dual Core. Might be pricier, but its better!

anything that says dual core, duo or X2, means your basically getting 2 processors in one.
