What does median and mode mean?

I have it on a math sheet.

median is when you are given a list of numbers and you arrange them in order.

once you arrange them in order, the median is the number in the middle of the list.

If the list has an odd number of entries, it is the direct middle entry, if it has an even number of entries, the median is the average of the 2 middle terms...


mode on the other hand is the most often occurring number in a list of numbers...

median means the middle value or number when the numbers are put from highest to lowest or lowest to highest. For Ex: 1, 5, 9, 11 ,23.
9 is the median. an easy way to figure that out is cross out lowest number then the highest then lowest then highest
although , if at any point you have an even amount of numbers so there is 2 medians you will have to find what number is the middle number to those 2
For Ex: 1, 5, 9, 11, 23, 25
10 is the median. although the number is not there it is the number between 9 & 11.

Mode means the number that comes most often.
For Ex: 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5
2 would be the mode.
OR:
1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5
then 2 & 4 would be the mode
OR: 1, 2 , 3, 4 , 5
Then no number is the mode cause there is no double or so numbers.

Mode is the most frequent value.

In the list 5 10 15 15 20 25 25 25 26

20 would be the median
25 would be the mode

Always arrange your distribution or data set into ascend.
Here you need to arrange into 1 1 2 3 5
so you have 2 as your median.

Mode:
Mode will be the the number on your distribution that occurs the most.

Ex. 1 1 2 2 3 3 5 3

here you always want to rearrange so you have

1 1 2 2 3 3 3 5

the mode is 3

In case you have this data set,

Ex, 1 1 2 3 3 4 5 4

arrange into 1 1 2 3 3 4 4 5

the mode will be 1, 3 and 4.

Mean:
The mean is the average of a distribution,
Ex, 1 1 2 3

1 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 7
you have 4 numbers so,
7/4 = 1.75 is your mean.

These become, when ordered:-
2 , 2 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 5 , 7 , 8 ,12 , 14
Median is middle value = 5
Mode is highest frequency = 2
