I mean, if it really is Friday, why would anybody need to pretend its Friday by dining at 'Friday's'? Isn't that the idea behind 'Friday's' restaurants: for everybody to dine at one of their cafes on other weekdays likeTuesdays or Wednsdays or Mondays, especially Mondays, and pretend that its Friday, since, by dining at 'Friday's', you will feel like its Friday. But if it really is Friday......, well, you know what I mean.
Is this not a question for all ages?

I also wonder about Saturdays. Why should anyone feel the need to dine at 'Friday's' on Saturday? Sundays, I can understand. Its all quite baffling, isn't it?

Ahhh, my friend, I think senility is sneaking up on you, too. Do what I do: turn your head downward on one side, and pound on the other with your palm.. My wife used to do it for me until I told her why she was doing it.

TGIF or "Thank God It's Friday" is the inspiration for the name of that chain of restaurants. Meant to signify that the work week was over and it was time to unwind a little.
The source of the phrase came from a member of General MacArthur's staff during the occupation of Japan. In the military various paperwork is circulated through levels of command so everyone who is involved can see it. They acknowledge that fact by initialing a routing sheet and sometimes add little comments to that sheet. One day this staff member received a rather lengthy report to review. It had a note appended which said he did not have to review it in detail until the next week and could just glance at it and pass it on to the next person listed on the routing sheet. He initialed it and wrote "TGIF" next to his initials to indicate his thanks that it was Friday.
To this day, the weekend edition of the Pacific Stars & Stripes newspaper for the military in Asia and the Pacific has a magazine supplement called "TGIF".

Although some of the In-Laws are surnamed Friday -- we never dine there. Most of the attendees took ill after sampling their wedding reception repast. I shudder at how one what feel after dining at Fridays now (on any day of the week)

The original idea I think was TGIF as an after work spot, but for real, I dunno...My kids like the place, but as places like that go, I prefer Ruby Tuesdays!
