I was tightening down the terminals ( i had to replace the batter and terminals due to problems ) and i dropped the wrench, which ended up connecting the positive and negative of the battery I'm using until I can get a new one.

You got a big spark right? Battery is still starting the car and everything works right? You don't need a new battery, just be more carefull next time. Batteries give off Hydrogen Sulfide gas and can explode when this gas is present and a spark hits it. Don't waste money on a new battery until the one you have quits working. Geez!

You let the smoke out. Now you have to put the smoke back in.

Normally, nothing happens but a shower of sparks, some smoke and a loud bang. However, protect the other terminal when you do that, batteries can explode and the acid will eat your skin. Very nasty.

Well, you SAW what happens. If the wrench only shorted for a second, probably no harm done, but rapid discharge is not good for a car battery.

Well, on a battery slightly larger than a car battery that comes in big trucks... I dropped a gerber multitool... it melted half the side of it and destroyed my favorite tool but the battery didnt take any damage from it.

You can get sparks, but if not for a prolonged time, shouldn't be a problem, if there were battery acid fumes during the connections, there would have been an explosion.
