I agree with you; most teenagers have terrible taste in music, in my opinion, at least. I don't know why. It's most likely because it's "trendy," and most teenagers are a sucker for "trendy" things.
Then again, to each their own. I freakin' love the Pet Shop Boys, but most of my peers (for reference, I'm a teenager myself) don't... which makes me sad, because they've got much better music and much, much better lyrics than any of today's "popular" music among teenage kids.
Chalk it up to the difference between generations.
Also, I see kids below me saying "just because you hate the music that you liked then": Guys, popular tastes change. These bands probably weren't AROUND when this dude was 13 to 17.

As a teenager now, I look back to find that I don't like the music I did back then.
It could be right if I guessed that your interests in everything will change as you mature into a different age group in life, because I know that when I live to 30 something, I'll probably be complaining about the modern music then and how crappy it was. But basically, it could be the fact that you think you're too "mature" for this certain kind of music, labeling it bad because you know much better and mature music than the ones you heard when you were younger. That would be my view.

What a silly question! Teenagers definitely do not like all the same "awful" music. It's just a matter of different taste between ALL ages. Some teenagers like older music and some older people like the newer types of music. I'm 22 and I personally love most Fall Out Boy songs. They are so upbeat, catchy and they get my blood pumping. So I take your question as a bit of an insult to all generations who enjoy both of the bands you've mentioned. :)

Not all teenagers listen to that garbage. I'm sixteen and I listen to the following:
John Mayer
Twisted Sister
Def Leppard
Michael Buble
Snow Patrol
Herbie Hancock
James Morrison
Corinne Bailey Rae
Charles Wright
Just to name a few. :)

Teenagers don't like awful music, teenagers just listen to music awfully loud.
Look whether you were listening to The Temptations, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, or Taking Back Sunday... you were listening to the music of your generation. And TBS and FOB is not terrible music. Taking Back Sunday has some of the smartest quips in their lyrics, and cool melodies.
"Truth is you could slit my throat, and with my one last gasping breath, I'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt." -TBS
"So wear me like a locket around your throat, I'll weigh you down, I'll watch you choke. You look so good in blue. You look so good in blue." -FOB
Come on, that's just smart (morbid, but smart).

That's rather harsh coming from someone who's name is "Crazy Cat Man". It's just a matter of different music for different ages. You cannot discuss someone else's tastes.
