It is not weird at all dear Heart! Look at all those people in show business who changed their names! There is nothing weird with an ethnic connotation in your name! But if it is your decision to change it for another one you like better, I don't see why not? Your family and friends will get use to the new name! They love you and they will respect your choice. For those who will not understand, it's your life after all! And you are the one having to live with this name your parents chose for you at birth. It is not necessarily the name you would have chosen. AMEN ! LOL
Have great Thanksgiving!

Well, it's always your choice. Think carefully about it, of course, and it probably would be better to ask your family to use that name for you "unofficially" for a while for you to get the feel of it - because, suppose you go through the paperwork to change it and then after a couple months find that you don't like it as much as you expected. In any event, the opinions of most other people, even your family, shouldn't count for too much. It's your name, your feelings, your decision.

Before I went to that extreme, I would try making up a nickname for myself, and see how that went. Since you are of legal age, you may do whatever you choose, of course. Your friends may approve, but I suspect that your parents will have hurt feelings. And it will take forever for everyone to catch on whether it is a legal change or not. A lot of us don't like our names in particular, but have learned to live with it, just some food for thought. Good luck.

Do what makes you happy, but be prepared to stick with it for a long time.
Why don't you tell your friends and family that you're thinking of changing your name, and have them "practice" calling you by your new name before you legally change it. It would help them get used to it, and it would help you be 100% sure that it's the name you want.

ask them. Have them try it out.
Of course it's going to feel weird initially. I always called my mother "Mom" and when I got older I felt "Mother" was more appropriate and made the transition. I always had to correct myself from time to time but eventually I don't have a problem using "Mother".

It will weird out your friends, family and co-workers, but I say do it if its a major thing to you. You and they should soon get used to it.
