There are no absolutes when it comes to getting rid of malware, however, there are a few tricks that can help. One is to run your anti-virus or other anti-malware program in Safe Mode. Safe Mode often prevents the malware from running and protecting itself.

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

To get into Safe Mode:

1. Log out and reboot your machine.
2. When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3. Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.
4. The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. Log in as Administrator. Administrator often has no password.
5. When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

Good luck.

P.S. It might be a good idea to arm yourself with some other anti-malware software that specialize in adware and spyware. Two of the reputed best are Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S & D. Both are free.

There are lots.

First begin with an online scan from www.trendmicro/housecall to scan your PC (try and make sure all other programs are shut down). Then choose from lots of free anti-virus progs. that provide real time protection and on-demand scanning:

AVG
AVAST
Nod

If you ask for an opinion here on which is the best, you'll get many different answers! So look at http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm#2

for a reasonable comparison and download links. Personally I use Avast and never had any problems. Oh, and make sure you have some kind of anti-spyware and firewall software running too (also free). Again, look at http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm for some ideas.

Good luck

There are many good free antivirus and antispyware programs available.

For an antivirus I would suggest Avast:

For an antispy I suggest Superantispyware:
http://www.superantispyware.com/

For a firewall I suggest the Comodo Firewall Pro:

And for full-time antimalware protection I suggest Comodo"s BOClean:

Yes. AVG has free software that most computer programmers and techies use. It's completely easy to use. And best - it's FREE!
