I want to buy something off of ebay using paypal, but I have no money in my paypal account and I know it takes 3-5 days to transfer funds from my bank account to my paypal one. The bid ends in 2 days, so would I be able to use paypal to purchase it without having the money in the paypal account by then?

When you win an ebay auction and select to pay using PayPal, PayPal will prompt your for the source of funds if you have a zero PayPal balance. If you have a verified bank account tied to your PayPal account, this will be the default funding source and upon your confirmation, PayPal will initiate a transfer from your bank account and update the seller that the PayPal payment is pending. The funds do not have to be cleared into your PayPal account when the auction ends.

Similarly, if you have a verified credit card tied to the PayPal account, they may initiated a charge against the card.

The bidder has to give you some "float" time anyway. Typically, you have 7 days from when the bid ends to pay the owner for the property. Some sellers will only allow for 2 or 3 days, but most follow the 7 days that eBay says they should.

If you are not going to pay right away, I would recommend sending the seller an email to tell them that your funds will be available in 2 or 3 days and you will pay them then.

Good Luck.
