well i'm thinking NYC just because i love the Velvet Underground and Talking Heads...so, what do you think?

It's hard to say...NYC is a good choice though...Sonic Youth, Blondie...I'd also like to throw out Olympia, Washington...with bands like Beat Happening and Bikini Kill.

Boston & Massachusetts has produced a decent amount of great artists/bands:
The Pixies, Aerosmith, J. Geils Band, The Cars, Killwitch Engage, Dick Dale, Rob Zombie, The Dropkick Murphys, Dinosaur Jr., Powerman 500, The Dresden Dolls
Also, there is Berklee College of Music in Boston, so many acts and artists are discovered there......Melissa Etheridge, John Mayer, etc

Yeah, NYC for Magnetic Fields, Ramones, Stooges and The Misfits.
I actually like the Velvet Undergounds 2nd album better than the first.

Although New York gets alot of credit for being home to lots of artists, TONS of bands come from New Jersey! The garden state is home to Bon Jovi, Bruce springsteen, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Armor for Sleep, Senses Fail, Joe Buddens (rapper), and even FRANK SINATRA! Don't forget us, we're a small state but we pack a punch :)

I'd also go with New York City. I think it's the only American city with a real sizable amount of great bands.

i chose the state of new jersey. mcr, tbs, and a bunch of other bands started there.
