I don't get that either, if I need to lash out I'd rather punch myself than cut-- cutting seems so slow and drawn out, not to mention horribly scarring :( there are better ways to release the pain..

I have a couple who cut themselves too.
I come up with an idea, to get one to stop, by cutting myself ONLY ONCE and going too show them Monday.
Maybe they'll come to realize how bad it is.

Well, i had another friend that used to cut, she said she cut
because she thought she deserved to be hurt, then she got happy by meeting a guy.

I know one friend cuts themselves for attention.

Two other do, because they have problems at home. One i smelled beer in her breath, and because she had a boyfriend that dumped her earlier this year, which is half the reason. He just came out of the closet a couple of days ago, admitting he was bi, which is driving her crazy about now.

And she's going bi.
Just like her BF the other one that cuts, except she's already cutting.

My friend, wanting attention, just also came out of the closet, she wants to be so much like our friend thats going bi.

So, some for attention, some because they have problems at home, and some because they believe they should be hurt.

And sometimes i'd used to want to cut, but i never did. I had the guts i'd just feel stupid.

its supposed to releave the pain. But don't try doing it.

Okay this is gonna sound really bad but I cut and I do it because it tells me that (you probably wont understand this) I am connected with the world somehow and that I'm still alive when I feel the blade run across my skin. I used to be depressed but after counseling(which I'm still going to) I now do it out of habit. One thing is, is that I dont trust cutting the bottom of my wrist so I do the top. My best friend does her the underside of her wrist for the adrenaline rush most want. Just dont start. It screws with your head.

This is quite common among teenagers who do not know how to deal with their psychological and/or physiological tension. For every behaviour there is an antecedent or cause before it occurs. Your friends may have emotional/ psychological issues at home. Most behaviours occurs because of something at home/school. What is the relationship of these "cutters" with their parents, siblings and peers? Were they victim of any sort of abuse during/after their childhood? Is the abuse ongoing?
Studies have suggested that when people who self-injure get emotionally overwhelmed, they then self-harm themselves in order to bring their levels of psychological and physiological tension and arousal back to a bearable baseline level almost immediately. In other words, they feel a strong uncomfortable emotion, don't know how to handle it. In fact they often do not have a name for it. and know that hurting themselves will reduce the emotional discomfort extremely quickly.
If you want to help them, suggestion to see a professional would be helpful.

Some do that because they hurt so much on the inside, that they try to make the outside hurt more, hoping to cover the pain inside with the pain outside.
Some do it because they feel really bad about themselves and do it to punish themselves.
It can be due to depression, self-loathing, mental illness. Very few actually feel better for having done it, and for some it just feeds the self loathing.
If you have friends doing this, please talk to them into getting help, it can get so bad that they actually commit suicide. If you can't get them to help themselves, perhaps talk to a reliable adult to see if they can convince them.

Its impulsive. It is pain, emotionally.
Then they have pain physically.
Its also called self-mutilaion another term.
Its causes are individual. But, almost all mental.
Stress, bi-polar and other phobias couls trigger
the response of self-mulitaltion.
One thing to help your friends is to talk to them about
it, and be loving to them.

It can be a rush, but most of the "depressed" people that cut themselves don't actually want to, they just do it for the attention. By the way if you cut your self, I have heard that it doesn't hurt until you run water over it,
