See if you have a speaker icon in your system tray, if u do double click on it and see if all the volume levers are up and nothing is muted. If you don't have an icon, go to start>Search
and search for volume control, then double click on the icon, and do above. If that don't work, you might need to restart your computer, that usually works.

First check the speakers. Verify that it has power by checking to be plugged in and turned on. If no little light is visible then it probably doesn't have power. Next, check the speakers by plugging them into a portable CD player or some sort of device that you can plug the 1/8" mini plug into from the back of the computer. The cable you are looking for usually has a green plug. If they work then a setting on your computer is wrong or they were not connected to the right plug.

Second, check the computer. The green plug should go into the green port on the back of the computer. Depending on your computer, you might not have a color code to go by. In that case try looking here to see the "line out" connection:

Then go check to verify your sound is not muted. Look for a grey circle in the bottom right corner of your desktop in the task bar. If it has a red circle with a line through it then it is muted. If it is not muted then double click on the grey circle. You now see a bunch of sound volume settings. Verify that "Play Control" and "Wave" are maximized or set higher than the bottom. The higher the setting, the louder it will be. Control the volume also on the speakers by turning a knob.

If you are still experiencing problems then the drivers might be at fault. In that case check here:

omg same thing happened to me ! ok first try these steps .. ♥ you know that system restore thing put ur computer back in a date where your sound was working correctly if that doesnt work ♥ restart your computer *sometimes works* ♥ go to control panel and sound /audio devices see if u have a default sound device if not then you need to reinstall your drivers - what you should do to get the correct driver is go onto the website of your pc's company *compaq, dell, etc etc* they should have some updated drivers if not email some tech support and ask for a link to download the drivers *this is what i did and it totally worked for me i was relieved*

go to your control panel by clicking on start then control panel, click on audio devices, make sure everything is turned up and turned on, other than that, either your speakers are not working or your sound card is defective

Down on the right bottom corner, by the clock, right click on the speaker icon. Uncheck the mute option.

Good to go.
