We're ranked 49th in the nation, according to one of my business professors.. and after living here all my life, I believe it.

Alaska had the poorest performing economy among the states in 2000 according to the federal government.
Alaska's Sept. 2007 unemployment rate was 6.3% and 49th in the nation. Michigan was 50th.

I'm pretty sure West Virginia has very little econmic activity compared to the rest of the US

West Virginia, and really any stretch of the more rugged sections of the Appalachian mountains.
