start by converting 15% to a fraction :
15% = 3/20
Then we have
15% of 250 = 3/20 x 250 = 3/20 x 250/1 = 750/20
Notice that 250 was rewritten as the fraction 250/1, and that to multiply two fractions together, you simply multiply the numerators and denominators.
In order to find the simplest form of the fraction 750/20 we cancel out the greatest common divisor of 750 and 20, which is 10 :
750/20 = 75/2
The fraction 75/2 can now be converted to a decimal by carrying out the division by inspection, on paper or with a calculator :
75/2 = 37.5
So the final answer is
15% of 250 = 75/2 = 37.5
Method 2
Alternately, we can convert 15% directly to a decimal :
15% = 0.15
Then, doing the calculation by hand or with a calculator, we find
15% of 250 = 0.15 x 250 = 37.5
So the final answer is
15% of 250 = 37.5

Percents are fairly easy to work with once you get the trick.
The % sign means "out of a hundred".
So 15% means 15 out of a hundred (or 15/100).
And if you want to change a percent to a decimal, you put the decimal 2 positions to the left of where the % sign is.
So 15% is the same as .15.
To get the percent of a number, you multiply the decimal form by that number.
So 15% of 250 is the same as .15 x 250.
And that is 37.5.

what I do is this:
the easiest thing to remember about percents is 10%. 10% of anything is simply missing a zero or has a decimal place moved up.
10% of 250 is 25. see?
anytime I need a 5% or a 1% or a 4% I simply do a little subtraction or addition in my head.
since 10% is easy to find, I cut that in half and that's 5%. 1/2*25=12.5
10% + 5% = 15%. so 12.5+25 = 37.5
Need 16%? 14%? simply take 1%, which is 10% with a decimal place moved up, and subtract that from the total. 15%-1%=14%. 37.5-2.5=35

For future reference, you may want to remember this.
Whenever you have a percentage expressed in that way, you take away the % and add a decimal two places to the left of where the % was. This prepares your percent for multiplication.
Examples -
1% = .01 (If it is a single digit number you add a zero to the left of it.)
15% = .15
110% = 1.10
Now you multiply your answer by the other number, in this case 250.
So,
250
x .15
-------------
1250
2500
-------------
3750
Now, because you have two decimal place is your original problem, you must allow for them in your answer. The same rule applies... you start from the right and count two places to the left.
So, your answer is 37.50 or 37.5 (which is the same thing).

here's a simple way. For example for 10 % just move the decimal to the left 25 of 250. plus another 5 % would be only half of the 10 % so... add 12.5 to that. That equals 37.5

15% = 15 / 100 = 0.15
0.15 * 250 = 37.5
250 - 37.5 = 212.5
therefor the answer well be
212.5

Poison! Just multiply 250 by point 15!
That is 250 times 0.15; use your calculator. That's all percentages are.
