I recently had my distriubtor replaced about 3 weeks ago after my car died completely. After leaving the shop my check engine light came on and when i took it back, they said it was my catalytic converter which I thought was BS since the light came on after i left their shop. Anyway, I was driving home today and my car sounded as if it wanted to stall out. Than, it accelerated poorly and my check engine light was blinking the whole ride home. The car would kick in good at times but my car was shaking alot. Any ideas what this could be. I really do not think its my catalytic converter because I replaced it 2 years ago. The OBD codes that came up were P0420 since I left the shop and today the new code appeared which is P1399, so now I have two codes. Any ideas what could be causing this.

The scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0420: Catalyst system efficiency below threshold.

Description
This system evaluates the catalyst's capacity by means of the HO2S (Primary and Secondary) output during stable driving conditions. If deterioration has been detected during two consecutive driving cycles, the MIL comes on and DTC P0420 will be stored.
recheck obd2 readyness steps
1. clear codes
2. start engine and hold at 3000 rpm until fan come on.
3. connect scs service connector.
4. Drive 45-55 for 2 mins . decel at least 3 secs to 35mph (closed throtle) try to hold it until readyness code is come on

Notes

Honda does not supply a diagnostic flow chart for this code. P1399 is a random misfire code and Honda/Acura has reported for various models that this could be caused by clogged EGR ports. In addition there is the possibility that the valve cleareance specification may be out of range.

P0420 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (bank1)
O2 sensor after the catalytic converter bad or unplugged

P1399 Manufacturer Control, Ignition System or misfire. (you do have the correct code)

Replace the O2 senser that is located after the catalytic converter and it should clear up.

Luckily for you the only motors worth swapping would be the B series or K series motors. Both series of motors are known for their popularity, power, and love from the aftermarket. K series swaps just require motor mount kits and a few small mods. Definitely worth the money! As far as legality of the swaps goes, as long as the motor is the same year as the car its going into or newer, you are legal.
