I believe that Bush could do so. Isn't it he said that Constitution is only a piece of paper? God forbids if it ever happens, I wonder what American people will do.

He can suspend much of the Constitution alter when elections were held, but couldn't stay in power very long. Read this months Hustler Magazine. Academic because that guy wants to get back to ranch and his stash of drugs.

Yes It's called Martial Law. It has already been done in this country, in a time of war, by another republican Abraham Lincoln. American citizens had their property seized in an unprecedented way ever. I think the real question is not "could" he but "will" he?

Yeah, if a president currently in power thinks that an election needs to be postponed for the good of the country, they can. He couldn't ban it, but could certainly push it back. The only time they are suppoed to do that is if the country got nuked or something.

My dear fellow the simple answer is NO. That's the beauty of our United States of America. No single government branch (President being the Executive Branch) can perform any act that will jeopardize the other branches (Judicial and Legislative) or its citizens. That's why each branch has specific responsibilities making the Balance of Power a reality through checks and balances. That's why we have lasted so long as a republic, unified but separate (states) yet equal (union). The President can declare war but Congress has to approve it. We have problems but it is still the best place to be.

This criminal could do this and what American people can do about it? They will never revolt against their government. Look what this monster did during his 7 years in the White House. Why he could not do that as well?

No. There is no provision in the constitution for the President to override the Consitution. Even under martial law the President's powers are limited to executive authority and not to the legislative and judical branches. Even Lincoln during the Civil War with virtual one party rule his authority was limited given the rather weak Supreme Court in that era. Today the Supreme court is stronger and congress is ruled by an opposition party so it is impossible except in the wildest liberal fantasies for Bush to seize dictatorial powers.

There is some provision that would allow a sitting president to do some of those things in certain war time situations. I do not believe the Iraq war is what our founding fathers were thinking when those provisions were written. However, I cannot see a president being able to suspend congress or the senate.

Get a grip! Bush is not running for President next year, move on! Think beyond the blather of the far left. Get some perspective, ready both sides of the issues and vote intelligently for the strong President in 2008.

I keep hearing that. It would go to the Supreme Court and I think even they couldn't vote to keep him in power. Could you imagine?
