I have always hated it as a girl's name, but loved it for boys. Would it be a weird name for a boy now that most Morgans are girls?

Just had to reply, because I absolutely love it. ;) So much so, in fact, that I'd only use strictly-feminine Morrigan (separate meaning and origin) for a girl. I just personally find Morgan so classically masculine ... though I realize it is unisex. I suppose the Morgan Earp association makes it seem all-boy in my mind. ;)

Still, it's not at all unheard of for a boy, even in 2007! It's even a top 500 male name (at a not-too-shabby 366), so I seriously doubt most would think it akin to Lindsay or some other unisex name that's currently common for girls but no longer among the top 1000 for boys.

And the current television usage might actually help, Morgan being the name of a male character on the sit-com Chuck. Perhaps not the most "manly" of images, that one, but masculine nonetheless. ;) It's also Dexter's surname in the Showtime series of the same name, so again, more familiar at the moment. If nothing else, it might make the name more obviously unisex (for those not already familiar with it), rather than simply thought of as a trendy feminine option, if you follow.

Regardless of others' perceptions -- or misconceptions, rather -- Morgan is a classic, handsome choice that would work well for any young man. ;) I, for one, adore it!

Ps. Per the "surname" comments, while it's true that Morgan IS a surname, it's a Celtic one. Most of which -- Morgan included -- originated as GIVEN names. Why do you think all the Mc-/Mac- names mean "son of Egan/Cormac/Brian, etc.?" LOL That's like saying James is "only a surname" simply because you happen to have heard of Jesse James. ;) Skewed logic indeed. For what it's worth, the Welsh form Morgan is generally traced back to the given name Morcant ... not a "surname turned first name" at all. Quite the opposite, in fact.

The name has always been unisex, though it does seem to lean a little more Feminine now and i personally like it better for a girl (LOVE Morgan Rose). But i see nothing wrong with Morgan for a boy's name, though. Besides, just because there's a trend of girls with Masculine names now doesn't mean it'll always be like that. In 10 years, it may be weird for a girl to be named Morgan. But still, it's not how popular a name is,or whatever, that matters anyway. What matters is that YOU like it.

PS Morgan Freeman rocks!

I really love the name Morgan for a boy. I hate it when people give their daughters boys names and instantly make it a girls name. Names like Morgan, James, Parker, Cameron, and Avery will always be great names for boys in my mind. Good luck!

It was always a boys name until women stole it. No one thinks Morgan Freeman is weird. I think it is like the name Jordan or Taylor. You like then go for it.

I've never met any Morgans, male or female. But it does fit Morgan Freeman. I've heard it as a surname more than anything.
