I assume you want to stay with the free antivirus software. Well, the 3 top free antivirus programs are: AVG, Avast and Antivir. Seeing as how you don't like AVG and Avas, I would suggest you try Antivir. Of the 3 programs, Antivir has the highest detection and removal rate. You can download it at http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/
It is fairly easy to use and doesn't require a lot of computer resources. If you want to try a commercial antivirus package, I recommend Trend Micro's PC -illin. Their Internet Security Suite will cost you $49.

I second NOD32, the others mentioned good but are system hogs and tend to eat up memory and boot times.

i recommend avira antivir from www.dowload.com the classic edition is free and there is a personal and a suite which are not free u will see when it updates there will be a window advertisement bout it
