It's possible, but here in the UK at least methylated spirit is about £10-00 per gallon, whereas petrol/gasoline is "only" about £5-00 a gallon. And even then Customs could be after you for not paying fuel duty on the meths! Plus you might have a visit from suspicious official men enquiring into why you're buying so much meths . . .

Petrol is around £1.05 a litre now. Yesterday I paid £2.48 for HALF a litre of meth spirit. Is it cheaper?
Also you would have to entirely reprogram the fuel injection system as alcohol needs a much richer mixture

Methylated spirit is mostly ethanol with small amounts of methanol in it to make it unsuitable for drinking. Ethanol is used to run many cars in Brazil as they have plantations of vegetation (sugar cane?) which is fermented to make the ethanol. This is being contemplated in USA with maize fermentation

Yes but only for short time,it will coke up engine.Have you tried buying meths these days or even surgical spirit.almost impossible.Years ago,you could buy it in all chemists,in gallons.Try buying it now,maybe camping shop in 100ml bottles,1 at a time,stick to petrol,cheaper in long run.

Don't know if the octane rating would be suitable, and I'm sure it wouldn't 'save money on petrol' !!!

It may but, gallon for gallon, meths is probably more expensive than petrol.

Try distilling your own. Also it makes internal combustion engines run cooler.

its mainly diesel engines they were on about , using old chip fat or something

but that has to be processed i think

No you cant. The octane levels are not the same.
