It has been broke down since 9/27 after that Alice n Chains concert. I got it back just a couple of hours ago. If I did not leave right then to go get it, I would not have it til mon. AND not to mention well over a thousand dollars later.

For an oil change on a 2001 Ford, 30 minutes.

For a 1927 Stuz-Bearcat that needed a new drive shaft machined out of mild steel, longer.

Without knowing what kind of car, what was wrong and what else was going on, no one can answer your question. Did the mechanic have to go to Iraq with his reserve unit? Did they have to order parts from Italy? Did the owner shut down for a week for the opening of deer season? Does "broke" mean a cracked spark plug, or you sort of lost control at 85?

I flipped mine on an icy road, and it was $700 short of a total. They had to put a new roof on it, and it was in the shop for a month! Finished totaling it about five months later in a head-on.

It just depends what your having done.If it was in the body shop getting painted I would say thats about right. But if you were having the motor or tranny overhauled I would say no longer than a week.

What's the longest amount of time your car should be in a shop? ?

$300.00

Once the repair bill reaches that amount , I tell the mech. to cease and desist.
