im glad that my son is sleeping longer hours thru the night but then he ends up getting a diaper rash! ive tried butt paste and johnson & johnson 3 in 1, and i jsut started using a and d ointment. i dont want to have to wake him up in themiddle of the night bc what if he doesnt go back to sleep? and i work and i need my sleep too. i change him at least once in the middle of the night and i try to change him while hes sleeping in the morning before i leave to work. any ideas? i jsut tried airing out his butt last night on a doggie peepee pad but its almost winter here in chicago so letting him be bare bottom isnt that fun!

he is 3 months old so i feed him right before he sleeps and i breast feed him so his poop is runny. and wakes me up in the middle of the night to eat as well so he ends up making more peepee and poop.

I would put Desitin creamy nightime on my girls before bed and it would prevent them from getting a rash. Also works wonders on rashes.

If your baby is already really rashy, putting a little hydro-cortisone ointment (not the cream) on will help dry the rash. Only do this a couple of times as you don't want to dry out the skin.

Next apply baby powder the corn starch kind not the kind with talc.

Then a layer of (zinc oxide type) diaper cream.

Last a layer of A&D or vaseline this will help seal everything in. Finally the diaper

It's easiest to apply if you get the stuff in tubes. Then put a little on each finger and apply one at a time.

Got this from our pediatrican, worked great for us

SUPER easy solution get some cheep fleece at a fabric store and cut it into little liner strips to put in his diapers. The fleece wicks away the mosture so that he will not get diaper rashes. And fleece is easily washed up in your home machine. I got about 1/2 foot and got 16 liners out of it. My daughter is rash free now.

Also you might want to consider switching cloth diapers at least night time. A few good brands for night time are:

Fuzzy Bunz
MotherEase One Size
Bum Genius One Size

By the way cloth diapering is far easier then everyone thinks it is.

To prevent diaper rashes I would suggest that you switch to using cloth diapers, they are much healthier for your baby as well as much more comfortable. If you don't want to switch all the time then at least do it during the night time, but if you put him back into disposables during the day then it won't help as much as going to cloth all the time.

As far as what to use on the baby's skin, I would use A & D ointment and then use cornstarch on him and in his diaper, it will help absorb the moisture and keep it off his skin.

Hopefully this helps.

Good luck.

i personally put desitin & baby powder on my son.

the desitin helps block the moisture & the powder aborbs a lot of the wetness.
when i change him in the morning the diaper is soaked & he isnt =].

i normally dont change my son in the middle of the night unless he poos orr wakes up. but its personal preference.

good luck & happy thanksgiving!

limit his fluids and put a fresh diaper on right before you lay him down and check him before you go to bed

hes getting the rash from more than just at night changes. talk to whoever is watching him during the day they need to change him every 3 hours at most

Try putting some vaseline on the babys bottom when you change baby's diaper.

Use powders with corn starch or straight cornstarch like we use to do in the old days it helps and corn starch absorbs extra moisture.

depending on how old he is you should take away the night time bottle. i had the same problem when my son turned 1yr and when i took away his night time bottle (he had no problem with it) he stopped waking up soaked and no more midnight diaper changes.
