goats smell similar to horses and cows, not like cheese. Cheese comes from milk, no matter what the source. Cows do not smell like milk, and goats do not smell like milk. Cheese is cured milk (basically, moldy cream/milk) and is a human invention- nothing to do with the animal it comes from. Sorry, you are out $200

Goat Cheese Smell

It depends on the cheese. The fresh cheeses don't smell like much but herbs which is what a nice clean female goat would smell like while out on an herby pasture.
The aged cheeses that are often from Europe do smell and they smell a great deal like an old buck goat during breeding season.
The reason? The protein the produces the smell in the bucks (male goats) that so enchants the does (females) when they are in heat is the same as a protien in the milk fat. When the milk fat cell walls are ruptured due to age of the cheese or agitation of the milk you get that same smell.
I love my goats, even my bucks and don't mind the smell too much, but I sure don't want to eat something that smells like them!

It is the other way around. Goat cheese smells AND tastes like Goats. Like the hay they eat more spicifically. The meat of Goats, if it is fresh tastes like the hay and grain they eat also.

(used to live RIGHT by a Goat farm and help out there a lot. Ate a TON of Goat and it's products!)

If the cheese is any good, it should smell no different than any other cheese. in other words, IT SHOULD NOT SMELL LIKE A GOAT. not that does stink, they dont. but if the milk is not cared for properly after it is milked from the doe, it will smell, and taste "goaty".

In my experience, the cheese smells far better than the goats.

To me no, to some other people yes. It depends on the person.
