Isn't conformity always the norm by definition?

Ever since Adam & Eve (or whatever your beliefs), conformity has been the norm. Call it what you want: team player, wolf pack, whatever, it is all the same: most people want to belong to a group and will do what it takes.
For those of you who have traveled in Europe or Asia or Africa or Mexico, you know that in other countries people do wear a wide variety of clothing styles. In all of those countries, Americans stick out like a sore thumb, as it appears they are wearing a uniform.
Still, people are afraid of "individualists" and will do anything to keep any one from being individualistic. Only we individualists do like Norm.
