OR... do we go ahead and hire the services of Jose Mourinho? There have been many mentions on English today of J Mourinho taking over the national team !! If he does, the first thing he will do is fire the entire national team and hire younger blood thirsty for success who are not yet skpoiled by questions like "SHALL I BUY A FERRARI THIS WEEKEND OR... WHAT ?!
It is pretty obvious to me that neither manager nor his players are any good and the sooner we start realising that our players are not talented and a waste of time the sooner we'll start preparing a good team to represent us in the 2008-World Cup. Otherwise the humiliating performances will just continue. English fans deserve better.
What do you think ?

Stephen M - good answer but we DO have better than Gerrard and Rooney. We do. All we need do is find them in the present under 21s. Those younger players have reason to imporess. If we want great and NEW football we need to RADICALLY chanve everything we sewem to be stuck to at the moment. FEAR OF RADICAL CHANGE WHEN IT IS NEEDED IS DISASTROUS and we have been seeingthat time and time again in the last few years. The Portugal natioanal has changed its players numerous times but the English teams have the same old faces.... Figo is gone... Beckham is still around !! Have you heard of Quaresma ? He is 20 I think. Ronaldo ? He is 20 too. How old is Gerrard ? C'mon ! WE NEED RENEWAL !!! N0t stalemate, mate !!! LOL !

No England coach will be successful without an effective team. The team's performance this evening was dreadful and it appeared that they had not played together before. Defence was attrocious, midfield was totally ineffective and how could Crouch compete without support. I am sure the FA will offer the job to a foreign coach and without a fundamental change in how we play soccer in the UK the new occupant in the job will also fail. Soccer needs to change from the grass roots level upwards and it will be necessary to place a quota of say 2 foreign players who will be able to form part of any league squad in the UK. We also need to reduce the level of basic wages paid to footballers but introduce performance related benefits for good play. Footballers appear to have lost the motivation to give their all for club and country and am sure the absurd level of pay is a dominating factor. The changes will take time to improve standards but this is the only way forward for a national side that has fallen to the bottom of the pit.

McLaren can start thinking about World Cup 2008, and where he will be on holiday at the time. He is no master tactition. Neither am I, but when I heard Crouch would be playing up front on his own, I thought then, "well thats us out".
Not blaming Crouch, he had a good game. Beckham was the major difference to England tonight, and I never thought I'd see myself write that after Germany 2006.
But you have to question selection. Bridge? Crying out loud, how does playing a couple of games for Chelsea recently qualify the guy as the best we have for the biggest game of the group. And crosses he put in the box were high and aimed at Sean Wright-Phillips, who was the smallest player on the park. Barry? Can he take a free kick that can beat the first defender. Campbell and Lescott in the centre, why was Micah Richards playing right back, when he could/should have partnered Campbell. Gerrard and Lampard - how many times do these two need to play along side each other before the Coach actually sees what all the fans can see - they can't work with each other, too much the same. Why wasn't the experience of James keeping goal, who plays week in week out with Sol Campbell in front of him.
4-4-2 nice and simple, in front of the home fans.
No matter whether you support McLaren or not the FA will sack him. Who they appoint though is a good question.
I agree with your sentiment of younger blood, you might even get a better team of ENGLAND players, who want to play for the shirt out of the Championship, rather tha nthe premiership

we want an English manager but there are no decent English managers so Mourinho may be a good idea.
I agree that we need to shake up the team a bit but to get rid of the entire squad is not a viable option because of the lack of depth in the England Team. We don't have anyone else remotely as talented as gerrard or Rooney.
Something also needs to be done throughout the leagues and youth systems to get more decent players so we don't end up with the problems we have when we get injuries. The 3 strikers we had playing today have barely played in the Premiership, thats a pretty sorry state of affairs for our national team, similarly without Terry and Ferdinand there aren't many other decent central defenders. For the best league in the world we have very few world class players.

Mourinho or not I think the English team deserves a tougher manager with a tournament strategy in the head.
I heard rumours that Shearer may be a candidate and in spite of his inexperience it doesn't seem a bad idea to me.

First of all the world cup is in 2010. And i think they should get Scolari (The Portuguese and Brazilian coach). But yeah its not all the coach's fault. You have to question the player's hunger and commitment and i didn't see that against Croatia today.

England should get Jose Mourinho.
If England had beaten Macedonia at home, we would've qualified.
I agree with Boris. The FA are holding a meeting tomorrow. If they have any sense, they will ask McLaren to resign. If he doesn't, he should be sacked. I doubt he'll be England manager on Christmas Day.

Mclaren will not go of his own accord. The FA will have to sack him. Believe me, I was at Wembley tonight and it was as bad as it could get, only worse. Only Beckham showed any commitment and Crouch, who had a dreadful first half (not his fault - Mclaren's) got the benefit of Beckham's ageing skills.
