I read this suggestion in a book. Supposedly, it reminds them of being upside-down in the womb. What are your thoughts, experiences?

OK you smart alecks out there, I had a question, and so I asked it. Isn't this forum expressly for that purpose? You are not being helpful.

I learned the correct way of doing this from my chiropractor. And yes both my boys enjoyed it. I did it up until about the aga of two. Ask your chiro for a demonstration

Seems a little odd. Upside-down in the buoyancy of the womb is hardly the same as hanging in normal gravity, blood rushing to the head.
I seriously doubt it would calm your child. My 19 month old son likes it for a matter of seconds, but after that he doesn't like it.

I don't know how old your baby is, but older babies like to be rocked upside down and right side up again, but only holding them upside down very briefly. It's not so much about calming them as it's really fun for them. Holding them upside down for too long could probably hurt them.

I don't know why, but when my niece was a baby ans she was crying with no control, she calmed down inmediatelly when I turned on the TV and play the video "Ordinary World " by Duran Duran. She stared to the screen and looked like hypnotized the whole video. I am not joking; it is true, she got calmed very quickly. Why don't you try it?

On my goodness... I can't believe some of these answers. Forgive them. Anyway, I have too read this and It does work. However I didn't hold my daughter completly upside down, I put her on my legs will I was sitting down and stetched themout a bit so she would be tilted down but not upside down. Then I would sway my legs .. it calmed her right down and she loved it. It didn't do any damage to her. Take Care.

I don't know at what age you can start holding your baby upside down. It was a new concept to me but my son is 8 months old and his chiropractor suggested it. Said that it helps prevent flat head and helps with Cerebral spinal fluid. I never heard it as a calming mechanism though.

Colicky babies are soothed by feeling someone under them, it has to do with the presure on their tummies...though I don't recommend you hold him upside down. Try laying him across your arms or over your knee horizontally or face-down on your tummy.

Well, it rushes a lot of blood to her brain - I'm not too sure how that would be calming. I always held my baby in an upright position and then danced and sang to her - we'd do the hussle or something equally silly. She loved that and and would settle right down.......she also laughed her first laugh when she was 3 weeks old while we were dancing.

I have never heard that. Also they don't spend all their time upside down in the womb. And that would still feel different because they are in water not hanging by their feet.

Well, I'm not sure if it calms them. I heard it isn't too god for them. if you leave the child upside down for too long their blood will rush to their head and that is not good for them.
