I am looking for a ballroom dress that they used to wear on the program ' come dancing' it was on the tv in the 70's. Ive tried searching different web sites. I know that there was a shop in Blackpool that did them, but I wouldn't know how to find out where it was. The dress had lots and lots of layers of net, and the top layer was silk or similar, please help.

Unless you're looking for a particular dress, you can easily find ballgowns from the 70s. Nobody wears them anymore for serious competitions, but collegiate teams got them and still have them I'm serious. If you don't have a big school near you, e-mail captain at sbdt dot org and ask her. I think the team would be wiling to lend it to you or sell it to you very cheap. You can find the whole "collection" on http://www.sbdt.org/gallery/misc/women_costumes/

There is a difference between a dress from the 70s and a modern ballroom gown. Feathers is usually the visual sign of that era. The bodice is not that stretchy and is heavily decorated with lace and stones. The dress itself might weight 5 lbs easily. Nowadays, ballgowns are very stretchy, much lighter, stones are usually glued directly to the fabric, the skirt is very flowy and not that many layers.

Cha-Cha found the right stuff for you too.

well, i would personal recommend ebay to find dresses, but my favorite store to buy from is Jessica McClintock. They are fairly inexpensive (anywhere from $105-$200). They are elegant party and formal dresses that sound similar to your description. I just bought a beautiful layered gold one for myself and it is silk. The top is very slimming and tight, and the bottom is multiple layers. Enjoy.

Was wondering if this was the place you were thinking of in the Blackpool area, it's moved just outside Blackpool now:
