I am considering trying to snowboard this winter up here in Minnesota if a friend will take me. Where can I get some equipment without paying the full price in the store considering I may not even like it or want to persue it more than a couple months??

I would suggest doing a season rental for your first season - it doesn't cost that much and you will learn what you like and dislike about different kinds of equipment your first year. A little shorter board is also nice when learning and then you can buy the right size next year if you like riding.

Plus, your equipment will take a beating your first season so it would be a good idea to do a season rental. I did this with both of my kids. I bought a board my first season and it got destroyed when another beginner crashed into me on the bunny hill.

Good Luck

Before you consider purchasing a snowboard, u should rent one for a day. Don't be shy and take the beginner course, you will thank yourself.. I have been snowboarding and skiing for the past 14 years, and have to say the best option for purchasing a snowboard below cost is buying last years model... Now that the season beginning it will be difficult to find bargains since the demand is high for winter gear. Check out play it again sports, if you have one in Minnesota or try eBay...or google discount snowboards. Rent first!!! Because your bum will be sore for a few days, and you might want to reconsider your winter options!!

if you want to buy, go to sports authority, ***** sporting goods, their stuff is very cheap, or you can rent from your local ski shop for around 100- 200 bucks depending how long you are renting. Some will give you money back (not all of it,lol)

If you're not sure you're going to stick with it, just rent. If you don't want to rent, there are always shops around that sell 2nd hand gear, or check Ebay.
