Hi all, i want to make this years Christmas more special than normal, more fun and make it a good memory. We have all grown up now, over 16 so have lost the excitement of kids being around at Christmas ( by this i mean, when your a little kid Christmas is really special). So has anyone got any ideas on things to do, get, make, etc. Whatever your idea please tell me.

One of the traditions that my Mom started once we were all big kids was for everyone to fill everyone else's stockings. It has grown into a family favorite, and we all look forward to the stockings as much as (if not more than) the gifts under the tree.

You know the saying, "big things come in small packages"? Well this is very much true, and is proven every year at my Mom's house. It's not uncommon at all for the stocking gifts to actually be more expensive than those under the tree, and often, the stockings are overflowing to the point that you can't see anything else on the mantel. On the other hand, it's not uncommon to find a $5 stack of lottery tickets to scratch off over coffee and danish!

Most often, these stocking gifts are wrapped, simply because it's hard to hide the delivery, when everyone else needs to get into the stockings, too. I think that adds to the fun!

I think it was a really good reminder for us when we were still young, that giving is more fun than receiving. Additionally, we all learned to appreciate the little things just a bit more, in the process.

Whatever you do, I hope it's a fabulous Christmas for all of you!

When we got older, my dad decided to make us guess allof our gifts....it became a game, and eventually everyone knew evryone's gifts but their own...so they would be hot or cold! Anyway, disguising presents was great......and the only rule, was...if you picked something to open, you had to guess what it was before you could have another gift! Eventually someone would become really stumped and someone else would give in, and let them choose another gift....but the one that they couldn't guess reamined unopened until they either guessed it or gave up as the last gift! It was fun, Christmas lasted all day, and we had some really good times with this! One year, I gave my dad an Umbrella, and wrapped it in Christmas Gift wrap tubes..., and he saw it before Christmas, and stated he knew soeone had bought him a Fishing Pole.....welll, I didn't want him to be disappointed so i went out and got him a Fishing Pole the next day......that Umbrella had him stumped for a long time that Christmas!

oh my, you never lose the childlike spirit in your heart ; I am 50 and still believe in the magic of Christmas, get excited and I can't wait; I love Christmas Eve such a magical time , the lights, the glow from every home, the music , the stars ; midnight mass with the church dimly lit with candles ; the Christmas story; homemade ornaments something treasured for year; make a scrapbook for a family member with pictures/sayings, sentiments; I have made 2 and they are so appreciated and loved more than I can say; a cookie decorating party ; breakfast prior to Christmas with family or some friends over for pancakes etc; buy coffee for the person behind you in the drive through line, without thanks just because; bring Christmas to others ; volunteer at the convalescent home to sing Christmas carols or have a tea there for them; donate a plant to the senior center or decorate it ; you get more than you give ; if you want Christ to live in you; spend yourself on the world with your talents and watch your heart fill up with some much of Christmas spirit that you can't stand it ; adopt a family through your local charity ; a group of people donate food and gifts and the charity distributes it the needy family ; ideas are endless like the drops of water in the ocean, give the world , YOU!! your love, your actions, Christ spirit lives in all of us .

My personal hint for you:

Buy candles, dried flowers potpourries, liquid potpourries, Glade plug ins or any other kind or brand of it, and/or air sprays in fragrances related to Christmas like:

Bayberry (my favorite)
Cinnamon
Mulberry
Pine

For some weird reason, our brains react cheerfully to those smells and make us enjoy more the celebrations.

Also, buy some musical instruments (doesn't matter if you're not a musician!!) and then play and sing with friends and family.

VOlunteer! Rejoice in the true meaning of Christmas. Go caroling with friends. Invite someone over who has no family nearby. Have a party.

Buy candy canes, get up early and go around to all the houses with those "Santa Stop Here" signs and leave a few. We used to do something similar at Easter, sneak around the neighbourhood and leave those little easter eggs on people's front porches.

the best way to make Christmas special...help others! spend a day baking cookies, then drop them of at a shelter. or volunteer at a shelter. raise some money for charity, etc.
