For this time of year anytime it gets below the mid 50s here is "cold". A few times a year it will get down to freezing, but not often.

Not now, not usually in Houston or south of. Nights 50s, days 60-70s for now.
Jan can go to 30s and less. Only a few days, not extended.
Rare to get in the teens.
West TX, a whole 'nother ballgame.

It very rarely gets cold. But today a cold front came in. It is around 50. Yesterday it was 85.

it is suppose to get down to 40 this evening per weather bug -

and there are times mostly in January that we do get freezing weather as for rain, as like most places - we have our moments sometimes it won't stop and others we have dry spells
usually Jan is when I I have the highest gas bill for heat.

yesterday, it was 80 degrees out, and right now its 57 degrees.
Last winter, it was really cold for a bout 2 weeks, and warmed up.
the weather changes radically though.
