how do glass pipes work?

im gonna start making them. i know i need the bowl, the choke and everytinhg else but HOW do they work? wudnt the glass get hot? and wats the best way to make them?

They work by piping the smoke through water - usually. They are made of pyrex glass to stand the heat. They are stupid and damage your lungs unless you put them in the window and don't smoke through them.
