Isn't the first anniversary paper or wood, something like that....that is a tradition anyway...Why not something symbolic, a surprise visit to the first place you met, had a date, or proposed etc. complete with flowers and a gift. Maybe a poem you have written about how special the year has been along with an engraved charm on a necklace or a bracelet (then you could add to it as time goes by)........that is if you are getting this for a female.
