Well I am a kind of girl who loves a multiples of book so I could recommend a mystery like some of James Patterson's book. Whether it's from the Woman's Murder Club or the ones including Alex Cross, I am definate she will like it. Nothing like a good James Patterson book to set your mind straight. And plus she is old enough to read them so....In addition to that his books always keep you entranced and barely here in my normal life (e.g 1st to Die, Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Black Friday, The 5th Horsemen, etc.)

Or maybe something that is awe-strucking and completely out there would do it for her. If so then any of the books from Stephen King is a worthy choice. I think he is genius and his books always keep me wanting more...Oh the mist is coming out this week! (e.g Nightmares and Dreamscapes, The mist...etc.)

Or you could get her some Philip Pullman books. He is a great author with works like the Golden Compass, movie coming out next month, the Amber Spyglass etc. He is much like C. Lewis, the author of the Chronicles of Narnia but his books are set for a mature set of mind. Both of those authors books are great.

Any book from these authors, mentioned will keep her mind of all anything but the actual book.

But if you want to keep her here but entranced try the Gossip Girl mini series. I've heard the books are a great read and I, myself, have not had a chance to read it but as I've said...sounds good.

Or maybe the Harry Potter series. I have all the books...but since most of the movies are already on dvd and all the books are already out and the hype is down she might already know what went down and how it did....so

That's my suggestions.

I second the Giver, that book is amazing. If she is 17 I think she might be to mature for Gossip Girl, It Girl, and the likes. But if not, a teen girl book I would totally recommend is the Au Pairs. I love this series, It is about girls in New York in the Hamptons Au Pairing for some rich kids. It helps me get away from my life and imagine their amazing lives. :)

Some that got me through at her age and now into my 20's and setting my life up for success:

-Molecules of Emotion
-You Can Heal Your Life
-CoDependent No More
-The Secret
-The Power of Intention
-Your Best Life Now
-Loving What Is
-Ask and It Is Given

I would suggest any books published under Hay House too.

Some of the authors are Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, Jerry and Esther Hicks, Suze Orman...

a book on meditation would help her while she is in any volatile environment. I would suggest one by Wayne Dyer.

Good luck!

I agree with "Speechy" and the person who said chicken soup for the soul. Do not get her any "clique" books or any from that category. They all are targeted at 12 year olds and suck. Something that makes her think will get her more involved and in depth to the book. That will make her really lose her mind (in a good way!)

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. It is a vampire romance and is absolutley addicting!

Twilight:

About three things I was absolutely positive:
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him–and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be–that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

“I’D NEVER GIVEN MUCH THOUGHT TO HOW I WOULD DIE– I’d had reason enough in the last few months –but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this. . . . Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of something else, someone I loved. Noble, even. That ought to count for something.”
When Isabella Swan moves to the gloomy town of Forks and meets the mysterious, alluring Edward Cullen, her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. With his porcelain skin, golden eyes, mesmerizing voice, and supernatural gifts, Edward is both irresistible and impenetrable. Up until now, he has managed to keep his true identity hidden, but Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret.
What Bella doesn’t realize is the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself and those around her at risk. And, it might be too late to turn back. . . .
Deeply seductive and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight will have readers riveted right until the very last page is turned.

New Moon:

For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is more dangerous than Bella ever could have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of an evil vampire, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may just be beginning....

Legions of readers entranced by the New York Times bestseller Twilight are hungry for more, and they won't be disappointed by this gripping sequel. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. Passionate, riveting, and deeply moving, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

Eclipse:

Readers captivated by Twilight and New Moon will eagerly devour Eclipse, the much anticipated third book in Stephenie Meyer's riveting vampire love saga. As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob --- knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

Well I think a good book might be "To Kill a Mockingbird" I read that last year in the eigth grade and I liked it, but let's see...I think the "Uglies" series by Scott Westerfeld might be cool, it's a great series, the books are in order: "Uglies" "Pretties" and "Specials" and I think that might be nice. Another series you can get, if she likes suspense, REALLY good suspense, is the "Blue Is For Nightmares" series by Laurie Faria Stolarz. It's "Blue is For Nightmares", "White is For Magic", "Silver is for Secrets" and "Red is For Rememberance."

Good luck ^^
