Actually, sometimes I do think it is rude. If somebody is asking a question then what they want is an answer. It is irritating to read answers when people concentrated on the error and not giving an accurate answer. If somebody wants to correct something, answer the question first and then correct politely. A question-asker is not stupid or an idiot because they made a mistake.

No never,I think it is better to have someone point out if by mistake you have made a factual mistake.
But if it is because your opinion is different to mine and you think I needed to correct myself to your way of thought, then as we say in Australia "Up yours Jack! "
However constructive criticism is always welcomed and even appreciated, as it means at least you have bothered to read my answer!.
I find your answers and questions in no way offensive and as yet I have not needed to be corrected by you.
But, if it happens then I will probably email you and say, thanks for pointing my mistake out and genuinely mean it.
Addit Why the change? I liked your picture, the Yahoo avatars are so boring !
Addit: Thats better, much more like our real eGypty!
sorry I really didn't mean to nag you.

What you did was not rude at all. What you did was so nice and decent of your side.
It's your "duty" if you see a non-native speaker making a cultural mistake in using the language to correct them. It's up to them to decide whether they want to take your advice or not. But for sure, anyone should appreciate the effort of someone who is willing to correct them rather than people who are willing to leave them in the dark.
If it means anything to you. You were right. She was wrong.

Assalaam A Alaikum,
I think if you are correcting some ones question it’s not wrong as long as you are not hurting some one with your words.
Its sounds good if you are making correction in any ones question but ensure you are not using rude words or you are not making fun of that person.
Take care all
May Allah (SWT) keeps us all in his Rahama (Ameen)

If it's done in a nice way without sarcasm or making fun of other people I think it's very nice of you. Feel free to correct me anytime if I'm wrong!

Not at all, as long as it is done in a nice manner. I prefer knowing my mistake than being ignorant of it. I also know that I do not know everything. Everyone makes mistakes, we are after all human.

as long as you have clear intentions. If you are correcting me to make me feel bad (i dont know why you would though) or to make fun of me, then yeahh, i would consider it rude
but if you intend to just correct my answer nicely, then i wouldnt mind at all
