I grew up in a very "stiff upper lip" type family...I never seek emotional support for 2 reasons....1) I hate to bother or burden anyone else. 2) it makes me very uncomfortable...I have a friend who thinks I do not think of them as a true friend because they recently found out I went thru cancer and chemo in most of last yr...They dont understand my way of looking at things...but emotionaly I prefer to deal alone instead of bothering others or worse yet having to babysit them as they try and deal with my problems.

I very rarely let anybody know when something is bothering me. I don't even think about it being a burden. I always think that someone else will think my problems aren't anything, and they will tell other friends how stupid I was to be that upset.

I usually don't for the same reasons as you. It's not anyone else's problem but my own. But if it's a serious matter then I feel that the close people around me should know.

It is only in the last couple of months that I have
actually turned to friends for support. For many
years, I only depended on myself and kept every-
thing to myself. It's nice to have friends there when
you need them.

Don't seem to know how to. I reach out to others, but I don't know how to do it to get the emotional support I need.

It depends on the situation but its not that I dont have people that I can talk to its just that depending on what I am upset about I dont always want to talk about it with others.
