This is what the Nevada CDL book says.
"Any single truck that is has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds. You must have at least a Class B CDL."
If you have 20 tons you will have to have a Class A CDL.

As for uses of this a 10 ton truck that is refrigerated you could haul anything from produce to something that is not refrigerated. You can use to move people. Haul scrap medal or pick up recyclables to make a little money on. The trucks are easy to drive some have automatic transmissions. You just have to remember that they are bigger than a car and you will need to make turn a little wider. And watch out for the height of overpasses and other objects on buildings.

At 10 to 20 tons, which is 20,000 to 40,000 pounds, you are definitely in Class A CDL required territory. Thats a tractor trailer. I don't know of any straight truck that can haul 40K of cargo legally with out extra axles. Even dump truck that can haul that much have tag axles which raise and lower with air pressure.

When I was on the road I drove a Freightliner Columbia series. Yeah Reefer trailer. Too much work
Drove good
Volvo is really nice, but sometimes it is like driving a brick
I drive a Sterling now, good enugh for me, not too much effort put into repairing. Depending on the problem...... it sometimes has to go back to the dealer.
40 tons... unless a straight truck

You're getting into CDL country at that weight and possibly tandem axles. In other words a very large truck that many people could not drive without training.
