Is snowboarding safe? What ages is recommended for this?

Snow boarding is easy to learn - you can usually get down a run without major crashing by your 2nd or 3rd day out. Snowboarding is easy to get started, but you can spend many years learning to get better and perfecting your technique. I got bored with skiing after only 5 years or so.

It is also very safe IF you learn how to fall correctly and you stay out of the park and the half pipes. Most injuries are wrist and tail bone fractures which can be avoided if you learn to fall correctly but injuries from doing tricks in the park are usually unavoidable.

Any age rider can learn. My kids were 6 and 8 when they started 6 years ago and are now very good riders. I was 35 when I started and I haven't skied since - I love it. Riding through powder and doing small spins and easy tricks is a lot of fun.

Good Luck

Snowboarding is as safe as you make it. I started to learn when I was 38 years old. I've been careful, have always worn wrist guards and knee pads. I will add a helmet and impact vest this season. I have yet to have any major injury and I've been doing it for 6 years. I recommend you take a couple of lessons first so you can get the basics of stopping and starting. Once you know how to stop in both directions you can control how fast you go down hill. Then it is just a matter of practice and always staying in control.

If I learned it, you can, and it is great fun and excellent exercise. Give it a try. Once you're hooked you'll be glad you did.

I've tried it - thought it was incredibly hard so I went back to skiing. But you should give it a shot! You might end up loving it. It's safe as long as you start slow and learn the basics and practice before going on a diamond run or something :P As for ages.. I'm not sure.. I think the youngest snowboarder I've ever seen is like... 8? 9?

Give it a try! Good luck.

YEA!!!! ITS SO FUN!!! its safe trust me, i've been snowboarding for 3 years. Plus when you go on the mountain and snowboard, you'll fall a couple times but everyone does their first time going down, take lessons they help. Well, any age, its never to late to try. When you get better, you'll feel how fun it is to snowboard and show off your awesome skills.

Best of luck learning!

No matter how safe you try to be, snowboarding will always carry some risk. Although being smart will greatly decrease the chance of accidents. Ideally you should start at a young age or teenage years, but you can start anytime.

You'll fall the first couple of times, but keep trying and you'll get the hang of it. It's mad addicting and tons of fun.

Wear a helmet, take a lesson, and don't be stupid.
